This position is an excellent opportunity to obtain training in state-of-the-art experimental techniques and broad scientific tools applied in molecular and neuroscience systems. The ideal candidate is interested in understanding cellular and circuit mechanisms underlying chronic pain. They will be given training and opportunities to gain expertise and master optogenetics, mouse genetics, multiplexes viral tracing, in vivo imaging, and microscopy.Candidates should be motivated, meticulous, and passionate about the research in our group. The ideal candidate should also be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. A willingness to take on new challenges and learn new skills is fundamental. This role is ideal for those looking to acquire skills before pursuing additional education, or for those interested in building a career within a lab.
Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
- Assists in managing animal colony.
- Maintains excellent records and organization.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate professionally with all levels of laboratory staff and investigators.
- Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Great attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Python and MATLAB.
- Working knowledge of using general lab equipment like microscopy and rodent behavioral apparatus.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years.

$16.59 - $25.92 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
