Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Visual Impairment Program is pleased to announce an opening to join their faculty supporting the Teacher Preparation Program in Visual Impairments and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) graduate programs.


The program is in its twelfth year and is comprised of three full-time faculty members. As the only program in Kentucky that trains visual impairment professionals, additional support is needed to teach courses, including weekend and summer in-person sessions, supervise practicum and internship students, and enhance program initiatives. The individual should have strong leadership

skills, work well with others, and demonstrate advanced knowledge of blindness and visual impairments. Candidates should be familiar with distance learning technologies and assistive technology for the blind and visually impaired.

Preferred Education/Experience
  • PhD or EdD in visual impairments, special education, or related field (ABD acceptable)
  • ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
  • College teaching and supervision experience
  • Familiar with Distance Learning Technologies
  • Grant writing experience
  • Strong braille skills, including knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB) and Nemeth Code
  • Knowledgeable in assistive technology for the blind and visually impaired
