Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all instrumentation in the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. Duties/Responsibilities&nbsp; <ul><li>Repair and maintain all instrumentation in the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. Disassemble defective electrical and mechanical equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment. </li><li>Plan and implement preventative maintenance on scientific instruments including operational checks and calibrations, and major overhaul when necessary. </li><li>Recommend and initiate modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards. Perform tests to evaluate performance and reliability of instruments and equipment. </li><li>Instruct and direct faculty and students in proper use of instruments. </li><li>Obtain price quotes from vendors for instruments, supplies and equipment. Order supplies and materials and maintains records of purchases.</li><li>Maintain records of repairs, calibrations and tests. </li><li>Consult with faculty in selection of new instruments and equipment. Maintain file of instruction and repair manuals for instruments. </li><li>Consult with vendors to resolve problems in operation and maintenance of instruments and equipment. </li><li>Order compressed gases and related items and maintain current inventory. Ensure safe transportation and operation of compressed and cryogenic gases. </li><li>Assist the Applied Engineering Center lab manager and the STEM coordinator as needed, workload permitting. </li><li>Serve on University and College committees. </li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul> Required Knowledge and Skills <ul><li>Associate degree or equivalent in electronics, instrumentation, chemistry or related field. </li><li>Experience with laboratory instrumentation and electronics. </li><li>Ability to work independently. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Knowledge of microcomputers, word processing, spreadsheet, and electronic mail software. </li><li>Due to the extensive exposure to internal clients in laboratory and machine shop settings, serve on the USI Safety Committee as needed, observe good laboratory and machine shop safety practices, monitor safety equipment, guards, PPE, and report on deficiencies. </li><li>A working knowledge of general OSHA regulations, electrical safety, compressed gas safety, and chemical safety is necessary. </li><li>A good working knowledge of internet usage is required in order to quickly obtain price quotes, part numbers, repair information, safety, and other general information. </li><li>A good working knowledge of the procurement department's BuyUSI program.</li></ul> Preferred Knowledge and Skills <ul><li>Bachelor's degree in electronics, instrumentation, chemistry or related field. </li><li>At least four years' experience with laboratory instrumentation and electronics. </li><li>Knowledge and competency in troubleshooting and repair of complex instruments, knowledge of analog and digital electronics. </li><li>Experience with maintenance of the following instruments: NMR, GC-MS, HPLC, MP-AES.</li></ul> Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements <ul><li>Standard work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
