Part time faculty are hired as needed on a semester-to-semester basis and typically teach up to nine credit hours during the semester. For part-time faculty who continue to work at Columbia State, salary is based on collegiate level teaching experience documented during the first semester of teaching.
Part-Time Faculty Duties and Responsibilities
The part-time faculty member reports directly to the dean for assignments/duties and is responsible for:

Title: Veterans Affairs Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY Administers the College’s Veterans Affairs programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Serves and supports veteran students and dependents using military educational and other benefits. Evaluates students’ eligibility for benefits, advises students on potential programs for which they may qualify and provides guidance on maintaining benefits. Ensures students are informed about current VA rules, regulations regarding educational benefits and the monthly housing allowance (MHA).
Serves as the College’s School Certifying Official (SCO). Submits benefit certifications and maintains enrollment changes via Enrollment Manager web-based software. Certifies and processes State and Federal tuition assistance for military connected students, including Tennessee Strong, MyCAA and ArmyIgnited. Acts as a liaison between the College and state/federal agencies to facilitate the institution’s veterans affairs program.
Regularly audits records to ensure compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs rules and regulations. Prepares and submits various reports to institutional, state and federal agencies. Job Purpose:&nbsp; A full-time faculty is responsible for delivering instruction in various formats (on-line, in person, video-conferencing, or any combination of methods) in the discipline(s) for which she/he has been employed. Instruction may take place at any of the college’s campuses, at a clinical partner facility, or at a designated temporary location. Faculty also provide academic advising and facilitate student success. Technology tools are routinely used to communicate with and support students.
Faculty participate in divisional and institutional activities related to the college’s mission, engage with communities of interest, and promote college programs.

POSITION SUMMARY The Enterprise Systems and Application Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the enterprise-level servers, systems and applications at Nashville State Community College and reports to the Assistant Director of Enterprise Applications and Infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manages the day-to-day operations of the enterprise servers, systems and applications. Designs and implements information technology strategies that align with College’s goals. Leads a team of system administrators and system analysts, providing guidance, training and support. Coordinates new project implementation strategies with the Enterprise Business Analysts to deploy, upgrade or decommission enterprise applications. Coordinates timelines, resources and teams for these projects. Recommends software and hardware, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
Collaborates with internal stakeholders to understand system needs and optimize processes. Coordinates with the Information Security Officer to develop policies and procedures related to the enterprise systems operations, ensuring compliance and standardization with all federal and state laws and TBR policies and procedures. Title: Maintenance Technician
POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs basic maintenance and repairs to electrical, plumbing and other building systems and provides general carpentry, painting and commercial building repair/maintenance services across all seven of the College’s campuses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responds to and completes work orders for various maintenance projects and requests in a timely manner. Performs basic plumbing maintenance, including repairing faucets, caulking fixtures, running clogged drain lines and rebuilding &amp; replacing plumbing fixtures. Performs electrical repairs, including replacing light fixtures, lightbulbs and electrical receptacles and switches.
Prepares, primes and paints interior and exterior building surfaces. Installs and repairs drywall, glass, handrails, window blinds, ceiling tile, carpet/floor tiles, baseboard molding, etc. Maintains and repairs doors, locks, closers. Repairs or replaces defective equipment. Conducts preventative repairs on an annual, monthly, weekly and daily basis as needed/assigned.
Travels to extended campuses as assigned to perform routine and preventative maintenance and to assess condition of buildings/systems. Maintains a parts, supplies and equipment inventory and advises supervisor when inventory needs to be replenished. Moves chairs, desks, file cabinets and other furniture and equipment. Assembles furniture as needed. Assists with indoor and outdoor College event set-up and break-down, including tables, chairs, podiums, risers, stages, drapes, banners, etc., along with other miscellaneous requests.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED
Three (3) years’ building maintenance experience
Valid driver’s license
Must pass a background investigation, including a favorable motor vehicle record and criminal background report
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Prior experience performing building maintenance for an organization with multiple locations/campuses
Prior building maintenance experience in a higher education setting
Completion of a relevant training program, such as electrical, plumbing or EPA Universal, or certification or licensure in a relevant trade
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of basic construction, plumbing, electrical and preventive maintenance principles. Ability to safely use various tools and equipment, such as hammers, drills, saws, wrenches, snow shovels, compressors, golf carts, forklifts, motor vehicle, etc. Working knowledge of building systems, campus operational requirements and utility systems.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with work order and preventative maintenance systems. Ability to frequently walk, stand, stoop, crawl, climb, bend, kneel, work on elevated surfaces, work in small/confined spaces, work overhead and be in awkward positions for extended period of time. Ability to regularly push, pull, lift, move and carry 30 to 50 pounds. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed to support campus events and/or respond to maintenance and weather emergencies.

Title: Events Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY The Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the successful implementation of non-classroom related events for internal stakeholders and external clients across all Nashville State Community College locations, serving as the turn-key liaison for managing both internal and external client relationships as it pertains to scheduling and coordinating events hosted on all of the College’s seven campuses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate and plan events, including working with potential clients to seek all applicable event details, conduct facility walk-throughs with clients as needed, communicate event information to college staff and campus partners, ensure event details are executed according to client contracts and college policies, ensure the College is represented well in the community and serve as manager on duty for assigned campus events. Manage and oversee operational and relational leadership to foster growth, address functional/operational issues and ensure equitable scheduling to ensure successful event execution in college spaces. Oversee the event management reservation process, ensuring that events are reviewed, approved and updated in a timely and comprehensive manner. This includes ensuring that rooms are correctly reserved in College systems, that updates to event needs are communicated to supporting departments and that all approvals, revisions or non-approvals are communicated to clients.
Secure event contracts and related documents, including lease agreements, usage policies, expense estimates, certificates of insurance and deposit payments. Coordinate and schedule campus support services, including facilities, maintenance, security, technical services and communications and marketing as required. Manage and maintain client accounts and database, including maintaining accurate billing information for each event, assisting with vendor invoice verification and coordinating with facilities to ensure client invoices are received and paid.
Assist in the development and distribution of directional signage for client events, including conducting accurate research and concisely summarizing information to facilitate the process. Manage inventory of college event resources such as, but not limited to, tablecloths, event signage, food and beverage supplies. Review existing event management processes and systems and advise on how to build a more efficient event management system, including developing a process to regularly evaluate the event management process to support continuous process improvement. Train college staff on use of the event management system.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree
Two years' experience in arena, theater, convention center or hospitality operations
Must be familiar with event life-cycle from booking to post-even wrap up, including the demonstrated ability to answer inquiries about available dates, estimate client expenses, explain usage policies, contract the event and fully direct the needs of the event with regard to production, technical support, facilities support, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree, preferably in hospitality or business management
Room-scheduling or event management software experience
Project management experience
Experience managing diverse venues and types of events for 25 to 3000 people
Demonstrated experience collaborating with multiple teams to successfully execute events
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate via email and represent the college in a professional manner. High degree of self-motivation and organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to improve processes and gain efficiencies. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with others to achieve common goals and act as a team player. Ability to remain calm and think analytically when confronted with unexpected situations. Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and crowd control requirements. Proficient Microsoft Office skills, including the ability to create and maintain spreadsheet data in Excel and to use Word for correspondence and contract documents. Ability to balance client needs with Nashville State’s existing resources and internal needs.
