Job Description:Reporting to the Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences, this role will function as member of a collaborative teaching team and will develop and deliver a medical curriculum in the anatomical sciences. The anatomical sciences program in the first two years is non-cadaveric and integrated with significant component of clinical imaging, including ultrasound. The third year is composed of materials provided to learners at the bedside. Job Description:Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education this role will function as member of a collaborative teaching team, will develop and deliver a medical curriculum for obstetrics/women’s health and clinical sciences.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching (75%)<ul><li>Develop a pre-clinical and clinical curriculum in obstetrics and women’s health</li><li>Present common obstetrical and women’s health presentations to MS I and MS II students</li><li>Participate in small group discussions regarding common obstetrical and women’s health presentations to MS I and MS II students</li><li>Develop syllabus for clinical rotation in obstetrics and women’s health</li><li>Collaborate with the clinical skills education team to develop and facilitate osteopathic clinical skills courses in obstetrics and women’s health including;<ul><li>Effective communication to facilitate accurate history taking and sensitive delivery of information (ICS);</li><li>Conduct of appropriately thorough physical examinations in a respectful, efficient, and skillful manner (PC);</li><li>Approach diagnoses with the ability to extract critical information, a thorough knowledge of disease presentations, and rational use of laboratory tests (MK);</li><li>Consider the impact of culture, age, gender, sexual orientation, risk perception, and personal values on patient’s needs (PC);</li><li>Identify, define, and understand ethical issues in medicine, in order to provide health care in a morally responsible manner (MK, Prof);</li><li>Maintain skills for continuous education, and competence in obtaining and critically appraising new information from diverse sources (MK, PBLI);</li><li>Be skilled in accurate, responsible, and respectful communication with other personnel involved in health care delivery (ICS, Prof, SBP);</li></ul></li></ul>Administration (5%)<ul><li>Assist with interviewing and hiring of department faculty as requested</li><li>Participate in the peer evaluation of department faculty</li><li>Collaborate with Assistant Dean of Outcomes &amp; Assessment (ADOA) on all evaluation of all courses, laboratory, service and scholarly activities, ensuring formal after action reporting, curriculum inventory and mapping at least annually (or as additionally requested)</li><li>Assist in credentialling OB/GYN clinical faculty</li><li>Collaborate with COM leadership, ADOA on evaluation of osteopathic student readiness to advance to next level of curriculum in accord with KansasCOM policy</li></ul>Service (10%)<ul><li>Participate in student interviewing, mentorship, and career counseling</li><li>Foster a positive culture amongst the students, faculty, and KHSC-KansasCOM staff.</li><li>Serve on selected committees at the discretion of the Dean.</li><li>Assist the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in accreditation functions to include document creation, data collection, data entry, education of faculty on accreditation, and other accreditation-related functions at the discretion of the Dean.</li><li>Perform other related duties, as assigned </li></ul>Research and Scholarly Activity (10%)<ul><li>Promote student research</li><li>Participate in scholarly activity with outcomes of public dissemination of scholarship</li></ul>QUALIFICATION(S): A clinician educator with a track record of proven effective academic and administrative experience in Medical education.<ul><li>A DO or MD degree with appropriate experience.</li><li>Current, unrestricted medical license</li><li>Current Board Certification in specialty</li><li>Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies</li></ul><ul><li>Experience preferred using innovative teaching methods which might include team-based learning, ‘flipped classroom’, problem-based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum delivery systems (e.g. Canvas), and proficiency in exam item (COMLEX and/or USMLE) writing</li><li>A substantial record of success as an educator, and of managing personnel.</li><li>Experience in publication/national presentations.</li></ul>KEY COMPETENCIES:<ul><li>Leadership abilities in influencing and shaping performance</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to contribute to organizational growth and development</li><li>Strong knowledge base in medical education assessment</li><li>Strong team &amp; people management skills</li><li>Familiarity with AOA COCA requirements</li><li>Strong, effective, and diplomatic oral and written communication skills</li><li>Excellent public speaking skills</li><li>Excellent service skills relevant to supervisor, peers, direct reports, medical students, and faculty</li><li>Experience with medical school accreditation and reporting</li></ul>Kansas Health Science Center offers a generous compensation and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work for a leader in the field of education.
