Perform preventive maintenance and general upkeep of landscaped and turfed areas; roads and walkways; parking lots; lakes, streams, and watersheds; playing fields and recreational facilities; and minor construction related thereto. Duties/Responsibilities&nbsp; <ul><li>Performs semi skilled landscaping, grounds maintenance, and roads maintenance tasks in a multi building University complex. This is semi skilled labor calling for a working knowledge of the care of trees, turf, and plants together with some knowledge of maintenance of roads, outdoor facilities, and playing fields using grounds related machinery. This is semi skilled labor calling for operation of trucks, tractors, and powered machines as well as hand tools. All work is directed and inspected by Grounds Maintenance Workers III and Supervisors. </li><li>Uses vehicles, tractors, machinery, and hand tools to do seeding, sodding, aerating, weeding, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming turfed and planted areas. </li><li>Assists a certified grounds maintenance worker in applying chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides to trees, shrubs and turf. </li><li>Operates machines and uses hand tools to maintain and develop outdoor facilities to include playing fields, shelter houses, fences, picnic areas, campgrounds, recreation facilities, fishing areas, nature trails, and fences. </li><li>Plants and prunes trees and shrubs. </li><li>Cleans and maintains vehicles and equipment. </li><li>Uses hand tools to maintain and develop outdoor facilities to include playing fields, shelter houses, picnic areas, campgrounds, recreation facilities, fishing areas, nature trails, and fences. </li><li>Maintains roads, walkways, parking lots, and loading docks to include minor paving, patching, grading, ditching, and snow removal. </li><li>Collects and removes trash and debris. </li><li>Cleans and maintains vehicles and equipment. </li><li>Makes outdoor set ups for special events. </li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul> Required Knowledge and Skills High school diploma/GED. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Knowledge and Skills One year of experience in grounds keeping including methods used in planting, cultivation, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, flowers, and turf. Operation of ground maintenance equipment including motorized equipment and hand tools and knowledge of routine equipment and methods. Agricultural background and high mechanical aptitude. Experience with tractors and trucks. Knowledge of microcomputers, word processing, spreadsheet, and electronic mail software. Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. Occasional irregular or prolonged hours may be necessary to complete assigned responsibilities. Position requires extended hours at any time of the day or night when necessary to complete the responsibilities to remove snow and ice or to perform clean-up work after severe weather or other emergencies. This position is considered essential. When the University closes due to inclement weather or another emergency, this position is required to report to work to perform snow and/or ice removal or other clean-up work following severe weather or other emergencies. Perform wide range of maintenance work, with a concentration in painting and drywall, in a multi-building complex under direct supervision of the Lead Maintenance Mechanic. Will plan, coordinate, and carry out construction, maintenance, painting and equipment installations according to applicable codes and standards. Duties/Responsibilities&nbsp; <ul><li>Order materials needed, and make the installations and applications required for completion of drywall/painting projects while ensuring that the work conforms to codes. </li><li>Tend to the preventive and general needs for maintenance of the University's structures, equipment, furnishings, and systems and for various assignments for repair and rehabilitation projects. </li><li>Perform basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks, and tasks related to maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, furniture, and systems. </li><li>Repair and/or install windows, doors, partitions, coiling components, floor tiles, cove base, stair treads, wall coverings, and roofs. </li><li>Maintain inventory of painting components and supplies. Assist in maintaining building supplies, tools, equipment, and spare parts. </li><li>Construct metal stud walls, install drywall, apply mud, tape and corner and edge trim, sand and finish to be ready for paint. </li><li>Prepare surface to accept paint as necessary including sanding, scraping, chip, washing, sand blasting, etc. </li><li>Apply prime paint and finish paint to walls, ceilings, devices, fixtures, trim, poles, frames, surfaces (interior and exterior). </li><li>Remove and apply wall coverings. Install and repair wall trim pieces, floor edging, and floor coverings. </li><li>Assemble furniture, seats, and other equipment. </li><li>Set up furniture and equipment for special and academic events. </li><li>Perform snow removal and paving work as required. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> Required Knowledge and Skills <ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent required. </li><li>Vocational training and/or experience in trades including painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and/or heating. </li><li>Valid driver’s license required. </li><li>Must be conversant with the basics of other crafts in the building trades and capable of supervising assistants on the job.</li></ul> Preferred Knowledge and Skills On-the-job experience in the painting and carpentry trades preferred. Preferred qualifications include four years’ experience in journey-level of a trade named above.
