Program Description: TRIO Student Support Services is a federally-funded program designed to assist students who are first generation to college (neither parent or guardian has received a bachelor's degree), have a financial need (low income), and/or have a documented disability. Our overall goal is to increase college retention and graduation rates for program participants. TRIO promotes and encourages academic excellence and success amongst its participants through a vast range of ongoing academic support services. We strive to motivate, engage, and empower students to become aware of their academic potential and future success!
TRIO Ambassadors will mentor students, facilitate programs, assist with recruitment efforts, and serve as a resource to TRIO students. The TRIO Ambassador’s primary focus is to support the overall mission of the TRIO program by aiding current and new TRIO students with goal setting, academic, career, and personal development. Candidates must demonstrate willingness, patience, and a passion for the student advancement in post-secondary education. Ambassadors are expected to meet with their mentee at least once per semester. Mentoring activities may include but are not limited to, college and career exploration, navigating college life, building study skills, and engaging in cultural enrichment opportunities. Ambassadors may also assist students in registering for classes, using HCC Online Services, navigating Canvas, checking student email, and accessing key resources through the HCC website.
