The Mathematics and Sciences Division of Rock Valley College invites applicants for the position of Physics Adjunct Faculty. Rock Valley College, a comprehensive community college located in Rockford, Illinois, serves a diversified metropolitan area of over 370,000 people. Rockford is centrally located in northern Illinois, within 90 minutes of Chicago and Milwaukee, and Madison, Wisconsin. The College is the principal institution of post-secondary education in the region. Job Description: We are looking for an instructor to teach Physics classes for fall 2022 and possibly beyond. For fall 2022, the adjunct will teach PHY 201 – Mechanics and Heat, involving both lectures and labs. PHY 201 is an algebra/trigonometry-based study of physics. Topics covered include kinematics, Newton’s Laws, momentum, rotational motion, energy, wave motion, and heat.
 
The adjunct must have experience setting up Physics labs and understand basic Physics and how to use the materials properly. Also, the adjunct must recognize the materials and know how to cobble items together to study various concepts. In addition, the individual need to understand measurement uncertainties and propagation of errors to give students background on expected accuracies and precision.
 
General Duties: Adjunct instructors will be responsible for creating the class syllabus and planning class content, utilizing RVC's Learning Management System (EAGLE).  They assess student progress and maintain student records.
 
Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree or higher in Physics OR a master’s degree or higher in any discipline AND a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Physics.
