We seek an energetic colleague with a strong professional record and the ability to teach across the curriculum in an Associates of Fine Art (AFA) program. These may include areas of Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising. Experience in areas of innovation and technology are a plus. Certifications related to the field are desirable.
Must be able to teach all levels of undergraduate interdisciplinary design courses. Possible course offerings may include visual communication, emerging technologies in design industries and concept- based design. Assignments may include day or evening courses. Course delivery may include lecture, lecture/lab, hybrid, and/or online. Will need to participate in department and college service, including but not limited to student advisement, revising, and developing courses and curriculum, various administrative tasks, and committee work.
The position includes collaboration with other programs and departments, as well as developing and teaching new interdisciplinary courses, as well as exploring innovation, learning, and implementing new methods of instruction and technology.
Qualifications - Education
Master’s degree in a related field of Design is required (MFA, MID, M.Arch, MS, etc.). Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in a related design field with 3+ years of professional experience including 1 year of teaching experience and significant progress towards the required graduate degree may be considered (the candidate must provide evidence of graduate degree progress and complete the graduate degree within 4 monthsof date of hire).
Qualifications - Experience
Possesses innovative thinking and has experience in teaching or practicing emerging technologies in design and media studies. Prior college teaching experience is preferred. Experience in teaching in a community college is desired. Candidates who, by virtue of training and/or experience, have background in diverse areas of design and new digital media as it relates to design, are preferred. The ideal candidate will be able to bring leadership to broadening the mission and focus of the Design Program as well as the Design and Media Studies Department as a whole. They demonstrate a commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity. Experience in online course development and online teaching is a bonus.

As an interdisciplinary program, the ideal candidate should exhibit a curiosity to learn, explore and innovate across the disciplines of the program. Candidate’s will have strong leadership skills and an interest in active participation in college-wide activities. Excellent communication skills with students, staff and faculty peers are essential.
