This position will direct the music in three Yale University chapels: (Marquand Chapel (Yale Divinity School), Berkeley Divinity School, and the University Church in Yale (Battell Chapel). Each setting is both a place for spiritual formation and educational enrichment. The Director of Chapel Music (DCM) has three primary roles: planning, execution, and teaching of music in worship. The DCM works in collaboration with chapel leadership, staff, and students to plan, conduct, and lead regular worship, special services, and occasional convocations. They will also supervise and help to train student musicians and musical ensembles (both paid and volunteer) to lead music in worship. As such, the Director must possess exemplary music performance skills and skills in the leadership of congregational song, broad experience in the worship and musical traditions in multiple relevant Christian traditions, and the ability to teach these skills to others. Opportunities for teaching on the church music faculty (lecturer rank) may be possible for a qualified candidate. This position reports to the Director of the Institute of Sacred Music.
