Job Description
The Director of Athletics is responsible for the overall management, planning, and direction of UVI’s athletics program. This role includes program development, compliance, budget administration, staff supervision, student-athlete support, community engagement, and oversight of the Wellness Center and Sports and Fitness Center. The Director will foster a culture of excellence, accountability, customer service, and community engagement while advancing the mission and values of the University.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
Eight to ten years of progressive experience as an Athletic Director or senior athletics administrator.Demonstrated knowledge of NAIA rules, regulations, governance, and organizational structure.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who have shown an ability to grow an athletics program, manage budgets, ensure compliance, and successfully raise funds and sponsorships for athletics at the collegiate level.
Physical Demands
Fast paced environment, especially with regard to facilities management and engaging athletes.

Strategic Leadership and Program Development
• Provide vision and leadership for the long-term growth and success of UVI Athletics.
• Develop and implement strategic plans that strengthen operations, competitive performance, and student-athlete development.
• Lead initiatives that support program expansion, resource enhancement, and institutional alignment.
Culture Building and Customer Service
• Promote a positive, student-centered culture grounded in academic achievement, integrity, and respect.
• Establish and model expectations for exceptional customer service across all departmental operations.
• Support professional development and leadership growth among coaches and staff.
Supervisory and Administrative Leadership
• Provide leadership and supervision for all athletics personnel, including coaches, administrative staff, and wellness/fitness staff.
• Ensure effective communication, performance evaluation, and accountability across all departmental units.
Wellness Center and Sports & Fitness Center Oversight
• Provide administrative oversight of the University’s Wellness Center and Sports and Fitness Center.
• Ensure safe, efficient, and accessible operations for students, faculty, staff, and community members.
• Develop wellness, fitness, and recreational programming that supports student success and campus well-being.
Revenue Generation, Facility Rentals, and Events
• Develop and implement revenue-generating initiatives to support departmental sustainability.
• Expand facility rental opportunities for camps, clinics, community events, and external partnerships.
• Oversee special events that enhance departmental visibility and community engagement.
Athletics Operations, Compliance, and Budget Management
• Oversee daily operations of all varsity programs in compliance with institutional, conference, and NAIA regulations.
• Manage departmental budgets with a focus on fiscal responsibility, transparency, and long-term planning.
• Demonstrate an understanding of roster management and its impact on enrollment, retention, and institutional financial models.
Student-Athlete Success and Support
• Strengthen academic support systems to promote eligibility, retention, and degree completion.
• Collaborate with campus partners to enhance student-athlete services, wellness initiatives, and leadership development.
• Foster an environment that prioritizes student-athlete well-being and holistic development.
External Relations and Community Engagement
• Build and maintain strong relationships with alumni, donors, corporate partners, and community organizations.
• Represent UVI at conferences, regional, and national meetings.
• Advance the visibility and reputation of UVI Athletics through outreach and community-focused programming.
Facilities, Events, and Game Operations
• Oversee the planning, scheduling, and maintenance of athletic facilities.
• Ensure high-quality game-day operations and event management.
• Support long-term facility planning and capital project development.
Governance, Compliance, and Risk Management
• Ensure adherence to all NAIA, conference, and institutional policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership in eligibility review, policy development, and appeals processes.
• Maintain effective working relationships with conference and national governing bodies.
