Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer and working as part of a collaborative leadership team, including the Dermatology practice manager and nurse leader, the Chief of Dermatology organizes and implements an effective care delivery model for the Dermatology practice.  Leads a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurse (LPN), and health assistants to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and cost-effective care.  Provides dermatologic care to all HUHS patients including students, faculty, staff, retirees, and their families.    

Position Description


  • Working as part of a collaborative leadership team, including the Dermatology practice manager and nurse leader, organizes and implements an effective care delivery model for the Dermatology practice.   
  • Leads a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurse (LPN), and health assistants to deliver high-quality, compassionate and cost-effective care.   
  • Provides dermatologic care to all HUHS patients including students, faculty, staff, retirees, and their families.   
  • Provides clinical oversight and supervision of the clinical providers. 
  • Collaborates with the nurse leader of Dermatology to evaluate care provided by the nurse practitioners and LPN and serves as a resource and consulting physician to the nurse practitioner.   
  • Actively participates in the recruitment of new Dermatology staff.   
  • Assists in preparing and monitoring budgets for practice. 
  • Plans and organizes monthly staff meetings.   
  • Reviews adverse outcomes and safety events and participates in countermeasures to prevent recurrences.   
  • Reviews the scope of care offered in Dermatology, ensuring that it meets the current standards of care.   
  • Participates in Lean process improvement efforts for the practice.   
  • Reviews and analyzes clinical, service, and financial data relevant to the practice and works collaboratively with the leadership team and the Chief Medical Officer to develop goals for it.   
  • Strives to integrate the care between Dermatology and the Department of Internal Medicine by communicating effectively with referring clinicians, developing treatment algorithms, and working with appropriate HUHS staff to create electronic medical record templates for use by primary care clinicians, as necessary.   
  • Provides one Medicine Grand Rounds presentation annually to Internal Medicine to help build the skills of internists at HUHS.  
  • Collaborates with the Deputy Executive Director and Senior Director of Nursing and Health Promotion, as needed.  
  • Participates on various committees, and workgroups and performs other duties as assigned.  


  • Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the department.  
  • Employs the standards, practices, and procedures of the department.  
  • Completes and complies with HUHS training requirements including HIPAA Privacy and Security.  
  • Reports non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, and/or Compliance Officer. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Graduate of a U.S.-based residency program with current licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Board certified in Dermatology. 
  • At least 5 years' experience as a dermatologist. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.

Some management experience. 

Working Conditions

All Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) staff and staff affiliates are considered Health Care Workers and as a condition of employment must provide documentation of the following:  

  • Letter of good health from your personal health care provider.  
  • TB skin test (within past 3 months) or, if known skin test positive, documentation of previous chest x-ray, information about any past treatment.  
  • Documentation of immunity (positive antibody titers) for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.  
  • Proof of appropriate past immunization for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella. 
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series – required for staff with possible exposure to blood or blood borne pathogens.  
  • A current Flu vaccine (this season) and Covid vaccines to include the Primary series and Bivalent Booster.  

The required medical documentation/medical clearances can often be obtained by contacting your Pediatrician, PCP, medical provider. Titers, TB Skin testing can be performed by appointment at Occupational Health facilities.
