Summary

Provide legal advice and counsel across a broad range of university functions with focus in particular areas.

Essential Functions

• Provide legal advice to University officials on legal matters, including:

• Employment Law

• Disability Law

• Student Conduct

• First Admendment/Free Speech

• Title IX and Clery Compliance

• Public Records and FERPA

• Regulatory Compliance

• Assist in preparing, reviewing, and interpreting legal documents (e.g., contracts, appointment letters, subpoenas, new policies/policy revisions)

• Research and advise with University officials on judicial decisions and legislative developments impacting current University, college or department practices, as well as creating and recommending compliance/resolution strategies

• Assist in managing litigation for employment/student related litigation. Investigate and prepare responses to external compliance reviews and agency complaints (e.g. EEOC, OFCCP, OCRC, US Dept of Ed, etc.)

• Other related duties as assigned, including:

• Represent the Office on University and statewide committees, organizations, special projects, etc.

• Continue education and training through seminars, workshops, and conferences, etc.

• Work with counsel and other state universities, organizations, and AG's Office regarding legal matters of mutual interest

• Related legal projects

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:

• Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school required. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The following Experience is required:

• 2 years of legal practice dealing with various legal subjects

The following Licensure, Certifications, or Registration is required:

• Admitted to the Ohio Bar or eligible for immediate admission

Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Experience with student affairs, employment, contract and policy review, civil litigation for public entities, regulatory compliance

• Familiarity with state and federal regulations applicable to public higher education

• Previous experience representing public higher education institutions
